Off-roading in the valleys 2

After the wettest Jeep Fest ever, Mark Askew's 'No Frills Weekend' was scheduled for the 1st & 2nd July and we were all hoping for a dry weekend.  Having been to the site the previous year we knew the off-roading would be good and Mark and his crew had spent some time grading and mapping the routes.  There had been complaints the previous year, mainly by the car-park warriors, that they couldn't find any challenging stuff.  Well I'm sorry guy's but you never will in the car park! It's there, this site is over 2000 acres!

This year we were split into groups depending on what level of off-roading you were up for. Our time was spent with the Black groups.

The start of the course was a short drive into the woods and then a climb up a narrow gully

As we drove to the top the sky's turned black but the rain held off.

Well, what goes up must come down...

Paul in 'Mudder' making it look easy...

This was a fun hill as right at the very bottom was a small lip that dropped you about 9" below the road level and forced your bumper into the ground.  Even 'Mudder' with it's massif lift and 35" tyres scraped the bumper.

Only nutters would try this in a Grand Cherokee without a lift!

When every one had cleared that obstacle it was on to the next decent. These hills never look as steep in photo's.

When we reached the bottom we found this nice little gully that gave everyone a chance to show off and flex the suspension.

Those Rubicon Express lifts really do flex!

You can't have a day's off-roading without water and we found this lot just waiting for us!

I'd promised to let my wife have a go - so life in her hands we took the plunge.....

Wow - I knew we should have tested the depth! Even with a 5" lift!

easily passable with a well lifted Jeep and snorkel - No problem!

Another chance to show off...

No one actually climbed the waterfall...

...although a couple did cross the top.

It was then onto more climbs...

Have you ever noticed how things break when your showing off.

Another of those hills that doesn't look steep

After a great day off-road what's better than to finish it off with a barbie!

"That's what he thinks - me I'd rather have a hot bath and a bottle of wine any day!"

Ok - day two was great too, but I forgot to recharge the camera battery.  If you'd like to see other reports for this event check out
